This course explores the enhanced cleaning protocols that hotels have started using since the COVID-19 pandemic to safeguard their guests and staff.
Using Enhanced Cleaning Protocols in Hospitality
This module explores the enhanced cleaning protocols hospitality businesses have adopted from Healthcare since the COVID-19 pandemic to safeguard their guests and staff.
This first section starts by discussing the difference between cleaning and clinical cleaning. It then looks at the different types of infection that Housekeeping departments should be aware of and stresses the importance of cleaning in breaking the chain of infection, not just for COVID-19.
The different types of cleaning products, their uses, and their safety are discussed in detail, determining different disinfection techniques. The various techniques are applied to different takes, such as disinfecting bathrooms and soft furnishings and how they are used. In the last section of the module, key cleaning methods that specifically reduce cross infection are considered, including high touch points, clean to dirty and its application in changing the principle of the Housekeeping Circle, top-down methods, PPE and safe waste disposal along with the role of technology in cleaning. Our Using Enhanced Cleaning Protocols in Hospitality module is fully interactive using a range of questions and activities to ensure learners develop an understanding of the professional standards and full-colour images to show learners examples of standards.

This module is specifically designed for operational housekeeping staff in hotels and guesthouses. It could also be used by any staff member who is responsible for cleaning in their department. It could be included in induction training for new staff, supported by internal on-the-job training, set a benchmark of Housekeeping standards for the whole team, support the development of knowledge behind the practice, and be part of training schemes.
Using Enhanced Cleaning Protocols in Hospitality will contribute to the off-job training hours for team members undertaking the Housekeeping pathway in the Hospitality Team Member apprenticeship as well as other Team Member pathways and, as part of our complete Professional Housekeeping programme, develop the base knowledge for other formal learning and qualifications such as the Certificate in Housekeeping Services.
